Everything we get asked about artificial turf, installation, and what to expect. Don't see your question? Give us a call.
Modern artificial turf consists of synthetic fibers (typically polyethylene or polypropylene) tufted into a perforated backing material. An infill layer (silica sand, crumb rubber, or organic alternatives) is then brushed into the fibers to provide weight, cushioning, and to keep fibers upright. Quality products also include UV stabilizers to prevent fading.
Quality artificial turf typically lasts 15β25 years with proper installation and basic maintenance. All Turf Boss NJ products carry a 15-year manufacturer warranty. Factors that affect lifespan include UV exposure, traffic levels, and maintenance practices.
Yes. Our artificial turf products are non-toxic, lead-free, and rigorously tested for child safety. We offer antimicrobial options for playground and high-use areas. Playground installations include ASTM-certified shock-absorbing underlayment for fall protection.
Compared to a maintained natural lawn, artificial turf has a significantly lower environmental footprint over its lifetime. It eliminates the need for water, pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, and gas-powered mowers. Lifecycle analysis studies generally show a net environmental benefit when compared to intensively maintained natural grass.
Quality UV-stabilized artificial turf maintains its color for 15+ years. All Turf Boss NJ products include UV stabilizers. We select products specifically tested for NJ's four-season climate and coastal sun exposure.
Typical installed costs range from $8β$24 per square foot depending on the grade of turf, project complexity, and site conditions. A 1,000 sq ft residential installation might range from $8,000β$17,000. We provide free, detailed written estimates with no obligation.
Studies and real estate professionals indicate that professionally installed artificial turf can increase curb appeal and has been shown to help homes sell faster. In competitive NJ markets where water restrictions are common, low-maintenance landscaping is increasingly valued.

Most residential installations pay back through water and maintenance savings within 3β5 years. A 1,000 sq ft lawn saves approximately $360/year in water alone, plus $1,800+/year in lawn service, fertilizer, and other costs.
Some NJ municipalities and water utilities offer rebates for removing natural turf and replacing with drought-tolerant or artificial alternatives. We recommend checking with your local municipality or water utility for current programs.
Most residential installations are completed in 1β2 days. The timeline depends on the size and complexity of the project. Large commercial or custom projects (like putting greens with multiple features) may take 3β5 days. We'll give you a specific timeline during your consultation.
Yes. We install year-round in New Jersey. Cold temperatures don't prevent installation, though ground that is frozen solid may require some adjustment to scheduling. Fall and winter installations allow you to enjoy your new turf as soon as spring arrives.
Yes. Existing grass, roots, and debris are removed using sod cutters and grading equipment before the base preparation begins. This material is then hauled away as part of our installation process.
Very little. We ask that you remove or relocate outdoor furniture, clear toys and personal items from the area, and ensure we have access to the installation zone. Our team handles all the heavy work.
Absolutely. Sloped installations require additional anchoring and careful drainage planning, both of which we account for during site assessment. We've installed turf on a wide range of slopes and grade conditions across Monmouth County and Ocean County.
For routine cleaning, rinse with a garden hose and use a leaf blower or plastic rake to remove debris. For deeper cleaning, use a mild soap solution and rinse thoroughly. Pet areas benefit from weekly enzymatic cleaner application. See our full Maintenance Guide for details.
Remove solid waste promptly with a bag, then rinse the area with a hose. The drainage system handles liquid waste β just rinse periodically for a fresh flush. Weekly enzymatic cleaner treatment keeps odors minimal. Our antimicrobial infill options significantly reduce odor between cleanings.
Over time (typically every 3β7 years), some infill may need to be topped off, especially in high-traffic areas. This is a simple process that Turf Boss NJ can perform during an annual maintenance visit.
A light pressure wash is acceptable for heavily soiled areas, but avoid concentrated high-pressure on a single spot for extended time, as this can displace infill. A standard garden hose is sufficient for most cleaning needs.
Contact Turf Boss NJ immediately. Minor edge lifting or seam issues caught early are simple repairs. Our workmanship warranty covers any installation-related issues, so call us first before attempting any DIY repair.
Our installations include a perforated backing on the turf and a carefully graded aggregate base (typically crushed stone or decomposed granite) that allows water to drain through naturally. Quality installations drain at 1,000+ inches per hour β far exceeding typical rainfall rates.
Standard cleats (athletic shoes) are fine and won't damage quality turf. High-heel shoes concentrate a lot of weight in a small area and can leave temporary impressions. Most turf recovers quickly, but we recommend removing stilettos before walking on your lawn.
In direct sunlight, artificial turf can get warmer than natural grass. Premium turf with cooling infill significantly reduces heat retention. Hosing down the turf with water cools it quickly. Shaded areas are generally comfortable. Heat is most noticeable at peak summer sun in July and August.
Artificial turf can be damaged by open flame, BBQ sparks, or hot objects like cigarettes placed directly on the surface. Use a grill mat under your BBQ and take normal fire safety precautions. The turf is not flammable in any dangerous sense, but point-source heat can melt fibers.
G-Max measures impact attenuation β essentially how well a surface absorbs the force of a fall. The ASTM F1292 standard requires a G-Max of 200 or less for playground surfaces. Our playground systems are tested and certified to meet these standards for fall heights up to 8 feet.
